Doctor Onishi is a character in the manga that differs from his anime counterpart.
He is first seen in Volume 1 of the manga and dies in Volume 2. He is the doctor who studied Tetsuo Shima. When Akira is freed by Tetsuo from his cryogenic lair, the doctor fails to get inside the shelter and freezes to death from the cryogenic properties.
