Kei (ケイ) is one of the main characters of the Akira manga and anime franchise. In both, she is a member of the Resistance.
In the manga, she works closely with Chiyoko, a physically strong and resilient resistance fighter dubbed her aunt. At first, she is close to Ryu, but she breaks with him and, in time, she begins, with the blessing of Chiyoko, a romantic relationship with Kaneda. She closely works with the psychics as their conduit towards causing the two explosions of Akira and Tetsuo, which cause them and the psychics to disappear.
After that, she stays with Kaneda and the others.
Etymology[]
- The name Kei is written in katakana (ケイ), which has no special meaning. However, when written in kanji (慧, 圭, 慶 or 恵), it could possibly mean:
- 慧 - "intelligent".
- 圭 - "gemstone".
- 慶 - "congratulate, celebrate".
- 恵 - "favor, benefit".
